Our Mobile Community Resource is a 1976
Leyland
Atlantean double deck bus. The Bus can’t be missed particularly as its painted black and yellow on the outside and displays the telephone number. The inside has been converted into two sections, downstairs, there is a seating area where individuals/clients and volunteers are able to engage in conversation and fellowship. The rear section has been made into a kitchen area with cooker, two sinks and work surface. The upstairs section of the bus has a lounge area and an information section to include informative and helpful leaflets and literature on the services available in
Blackpool
that would best suit their particular need.
The Bus goes out at least three times a week visiting the Cenotaph and
Lytham Road
opposite the Heath Centre. The work is overseen by the Project Coordinator and volunteers freely give of the time and expertise to either drive, prepare food or provide a listening ear. The Bus is known to many as a meeting place, however, anyone is welcome to enter onto it without obligation, to receive food, something to drink and help with practical needs if required. The Bus is generally the first point of contact we have with new arrivals it can be a source of real help to people who may be alone and sleeping rough on the streets at night.
We support local churches within the Blackpool Fylde and Wyre area for mission work by loaning out the Bus. We don’t charge for this service but often receive donations to support the work of the Bus. Last year the Bus went on Campus at Blackpool and the
Fylde
College
to provide advice and guidance on Substance Misuse to the students. We endeavour to work in partnership with services available within the
Blackpool
, Fylde and Wyre areas, providing a Christian response to issues, whilst acknowledging and respecting individuals of all faiths and beliefs.
